Dear user,

The CFOSAT Level-2 SWIM product in version 7.1 has been updated with a significant evolution: the extension of the slope spectrum range from 500 meters to 1112 meters. This improvement aims to enhance the product's accuracy and representativeness. For more detailed information, please refer to the Release Note: CFOSAT AWWAIS 7.1 main evolutions.

Key Changes and Improvements:

Slope Spectrum Extension: The slope spectrum has been extended from 500 meters to 1112 meters. However, parasitic peaks at wavelengths beyond 800 meters have been identified, impacting the detection performance of partitions.

Detection Limit Adjustment: To address this issue, the detection limit for partitions has been set to 800 meters. This adjustment reduces artificial rebounds observed around 400–450 meters, leading to a more accurate distribution.

High Correspondence Between Datasets: The matching between the old dataset (22.5–500 meters) and the new dataset (22.5–1112 meters) shows a high correspondence, particularly for partitions 1 and 2, with over 90% matching.

On March 15th, the CNES terrestrial link to South Africa suffered a major internet failure. Since that time it has unfortunately been impossible to recover any telemetry downloaded to our station in Hartebeesthoek. Given the large amount of telemetry generated by the SWOT satellite, the number of passes available in the CNES network to download all the data is insufficient. In order to avoid any loss of measurements, the satellite programming was updated on March 19 to reduce the number of land hydrology measurements (HR Mask) to 45% of the maximum possible data. On March 21, the programming has been re-tuned to increase the available hydrology data to approximately 76%.
Map showing the updated mask reduced to 76%.
This event is temporary and we will return to nominal measurements as soon as the terrestrial link with Hartebeesthoek is re-established.
During this period, the macrocycle, i.e. the sequence of beams illuminated, will be 0°, 2°, 10°, 10°, 10°, instead of the usual 0°, 2°, 4°, 6°, 8°, 10° sequence.
This specific programming of the instrument aims at getting data to analyze the impact and possibilities linked to the repeated sampling of the 10° beam on the Wave spectra and derived parameters performance.
Products will be delivered as usual during the period.
After the 7th of February, the instrument will come back to usual programming (0°, 2°, 4°, 6°, 8°, 10°).

Dear AVISO users,

The reprocessed SWOT 1-day orbit IGDR nadir altimeter products for the period from March 29 to July 10, 2023 are now available at AVISO.
Please note that some gaps remain in this reprocessed time series of IGDRs because either the raw IGDRs were not available or the available IGDRs could not be processed with the current version of the data processing software.
In addition, some outliers have been detected in this release of reprocessed 1-day orbit IGDRs and are being corrected in the processing and production of GDR data products.
However, please note that no additional 1-day orbit L2_NALT_IGDR beta pre-validated products are expected at this time.
The production of SWOT GDR products is expected to improve data availability and quality.
The public release of the SWOT GDRs is planned for the end of 2023.
