Interaction of internal solitary waves and eddies observed for the first time with Swot
For the first time, Swot enabled to observe Internal solitary waves signature in sea surface height. This allowed researchers to study the interactions of internal solitary waves with eddies on the Amazon Shelf, leading to a better understanding of their complex interactions.

Internal solitary waves impact physical and biological processes in the upper ocean, as well as human activities with potential impacts on navigation and coastal infrastructures. A study using both L4 data including Swot measurements, to detect the eddies and to remove the "known" part of the measurements, and Swot L3 2-km data, to observe the higher-resolution signals of the internal waves has been published.
