PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION POLICY

 

I- Collection of Personal Data

In accordance with the French Data Protection Act of 1978 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are obligated to collect your personal data as part of our activities. The Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) acts as the Data Controller for this processing.

II- Purposes and Legal Basis for Processing

We collect your data on the legal basis of the contract that enables you to access our services. Your data is collected for the following purposes: 

- Providing a subscription to AVISO products upon request.

- Conducting statistical studies to enhance our services according to your needs.

- Recontacting individuals who have previously reached out to us.

- Offering regular information on altimetry missions, data, products, and applications.

- Statistical monitoring of download data.

Please note that the processing of your personal data is strictly necessary for the performance of the contract.

Additionally, as part of our activities, we may send you our newsletter. This is not a commercial activity but a compulsory additional service, solely intended to keep you informed about altimetry missions, data, products, and applications. Unsubscribing from this newsletter will result in the deletion of all your data and accounts.

 

III- Set of Personal Data

For this purpose, we may collect the following personal data:

  • Your first and last name.
  • Your email address.
  • The name and contact details of your organization (research laboratory, company, etc.).
  • Your password.
  • Your connection logs.
  • Your IP address.

 

This data is stored on CLS servers, located exclusively within the European Union. Each piece of data is stored:

  • Your surname, first name, email address, password and contact details are kept for the duration of the subscription contract, and then for a further 5 years in intermediate storage (legal statute of limitations).
  • 6 months for connection logs.
  • For data extraction files for statistical purposes: the current year + 5 years.

Once this period has elapsed, the data is deleted. Furthermore, if inactivity is noted on your account, it will be automatically deleted from our servers within one month.

 

IV- Recipients and Transfers

This data is intended for the internal use of the CNES Oceanography Mission Department, and for the company COLLECTE LOCALISATION SATELLITES (CLS), which, as a subcontractor, hosts and maintains our website.

 

V- RGPD Rights

You may exercise rights relating to all data concerning you.

  • Right of access: you may exercise your right of access to find out what personal data we hold about you, including its nature, origin and intended use.
  • Right of rectification: if your personal data held by CNES is inaccurate, you may request that it be amended, updated or completed.
  • Right to erasure: you may request the deletion of personal data held by CNES in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Right to portability: you may request the portability of your personal data. On the twofold condition that the processing is based on the performance of a contract or the consent of the individual, and that it is automated, you have the right to receive the data in a structured format, in clear, machine-readable and interoperable language, and to transmit it to another controller without CNES hindering it.
  • Right to limitation: you have the right to obtain the limitation of processing, in particular when you dispute the accuracy of the data.

 

You also have the right to determine what happens to this data after your death.

In order to guarantee data confidentiality, you must be able to prove your identity. If necessary, a photocopy of an identity document will be requested.

CNES will respond within one month of receipt of the request. If necessary, this period may be extended by two months, depending on the complexity and number of requests.

We would also like to remind you that any request for opposition, deletion, or restriction may result in the interruption of our services.

If you feel that we have not respected your rights, you are entitled to refer the matter to the CNIL.

This processing is not subject to any automated decision, including profiling.

 

VI- Cookies

a.    What is a "cookie"?

A cookie is a computer trace "stored by a server on a user's terminal and associated with a web domain". This tracker holds important information for the operation of our site, such as your session identifier, the site's functional parameters and your preferences in terms of use and settings, such as language. Under European regulations, cookies are in principle subject to authorization by the person concerned (except for so-called "essential" cookies relating to the technical operation of the site).

Customizable homepage

This home page is composed of blocks called "widgets".

Rearrange the blocks with a "Click & Drop".

Hide a widget with the cross at the top right. Reset or add a widget with the "wrench" icon. The "User" and "Public" profiles offer a predefined organization.

All the modifications are automatically saved as cookies on your machine so as to enable you to have your own specific AVISO+.

Browsing menu and breadcrum trail

To ease your browsing through AVISO+, you can use at any time the main banner items with the interactive submenus or use the browsing menu on the left side of the screen (it is open by default). Products search guide

The first submenu of the "Data" banner item leads you to a new search form enabling you to find quickier the product that suits your needs. The list of results is updated according to your selection criteria.
