Lively Data, 2003

Dec. 22, 2003: Longitude-time diagram (2)
The LAS can plot an Hovmoller diagram over an area : application accross the tropical Pacific ocean.
Dec. 8, 2003: Change of units
The Live Access Server able to make computations on the variable you are plotting : changes of units like inches and feet, m/s or km/s are possible.
Nov. 24, 2003: A temporal ocean slice
"Longitude-Time" (or "Hovmoller") diagrams are a way to see the moves of some phenomena along time like Rossby and Kelvin waves. Application accross the tropical Pacific ocean.
Nov. 10, 2003: Different points of view
The Live Access Server able you to look at an area along slightly different points of view : low resolution, variance, averages ...
Oct. 20, 2003 : Averaging an area
Sea level evolution all over the "3.4" area inform better than the evolution at one point of the El Niño phenomenon.
Oct. 6, 2003: Variance
Sea Level Anomaly variance in the Gulf Stream area.
Sep. 22, 2003: Along-time data
The Live Access Server can not only plot maps, but also along-time evolution. Application at one point in the tropical Pacific ocean.
Sep. 8, 2003: Digging into the data
Example of use of datasets available with this LAS via the OpenDap.
Aug. 18, 2003: Coloring the data
Choosing a color scale to plot data is not arbitrary; The Live Access Server allows you to choose between several color scales.
Aug. 11, 2003: Four seasons in the Atlantic
Maps of sea level anomaly maps over the Atlantic Ocean for the four seasons.
Aug. 4, 2003: Having a closer look
The Kuroshio is a western boundary current with many eddies and high variability.
July 28, 2003: North Atlantic eddies
North Atlantic is an area with many eddies, even if they might not be as spectacular as in the major currents.
July 21, 2003: Tracking El Niño
The LAS able to see the El Niño phenomenon on the sea level anomaly maps : thhis is an example with the comparison functions to estimate theevolution between two dates.
July 15, 2003: Question of resolution
Ssalto/Duacs sea level anomaly data are available in two versions with different resolution : High-resolution data (1/3°x1/3° on a Mercator grid) and Low resolution version (1°x1°).
July 7, 2003: Scaling the ocean
Automatic scale can muffle some low-intensity phenomena, it is often better to define yourself the color scale extrema.
June 30, 2003: South of Africa, currents and sea level heights
South of Africa ocean is an area where currents converge, very turbulent : visualization with the geostrophic currents maps drawn by the LAS.
