22.04.2026 [CFOSAT] Level-2 SWIM Product Evolution: Wave Slope Spectrum Range Extension{}

Dear user,The CFOSAT Level-2 SWIM product in version 7.1 has been updated with a significant evolution: the extension of the slope spectrum range from 500 meters to 1112 meters. This improvement aims to enhance the product's accuracy and representativeness. For more detailed information, please refer to the Release Note: CFOSAT AWWAIS 7.1 main evolutions.Key Changes and Improvements:Slope Spectrum Extension: The slope spectrum has been extended from 500 meters to 1112 meters. However, parasitic peaks at wavelengths beyond 800 meters have been identified, impacting the detection performance of partitions.Detection Limit Adjustment: To address this issue, the detection limit for partitions has been set to 800 meters. This adjustment reduces artificial rebounds observed around 400–450 meters, leading to a more accurate distribution.High Correspondence Between Datasets: The matching between the old dataset (22.5–500 meters) and the new dataset (22.5–1112 meters) shows a high correspondence, particularly for partitions 1 and 2, with over 90% matching.[details]

06.05.2025 [CFOSAT] AWWAIS v7.1 main evolutions

Dear user,Please note that for version 7.1 in production from 2025/02/18 to 2025/04/23, the SNR threshold has been modified from 1.1 to 0.7 for the combined beam only and not for the 10° beam. Since 2025/04/23 7:18, and following the correction of the speckle model described in the previous release note [CFOSAT_AWWAIS_V7.1_ReleaseNote.pdf (altimetry.fr), the SNR ratio is now set to 0.7 for 10° beam and combined beam.To remember, this was chosen so as to find a compromise between improving the correlation coefficient between the wave elevation spectra from SWIM and from the MFWAM model, and not degrading the spectra in long and low swells regions. This change in the SNR threshold value does not change significantly the number of cases affected by the parasitic peak correction, which is about 30%.[details]

14.04.2025 [CFOSAT] Wrong input auxiliary files between 03/31/2025 - 04/07/2025

Dear user,Please note that due to a software anomaly, L2ANAD products were generated with the auxiliary file CFO_TEST_AUX_WIND_F_20161219T000000_20991231T235959.bin instead of CFO_OPER_AUX_WIND__20181022T000002_20991231T235959.bin over the 03/31/2025 - 04/07/2025 period.The impact on ANAD products is limited to changes in WIND_SPEED values (enhancement).Everything will be brought in line with the remove of TEST_AUX_WIND file in the database. Mission-wide consistency will be achieved during the next reprocessing phase.[details]

20.09.2024 [CFOSAT] unsuccessful attempt to deploy AWWAIS 7.0

Please note that due to an unsuccessful attempt to deploy AWWAIS 7.0, CFO_OP06_SWI_L2ANAD products were generated with the auxiliary file CFO_TESTAUX_WIND__F_20161219T000000_20991231T235959.bin

instead of

CFO_OPERAUX_WIND__F_20181022T000001_20991231T235959.bin      over the 08/30 - 09/16/2024 period.

ANAD products were also renamed to CFO_OPER_SWI_L2ANAD. The impact on ANAD products is limited to changes in WIND_SPEED values (enhancement).

Everything will be brought in line with the deployment of AWWAIS version 7.0. Mission-wide consistency will be achieved during the next reprocessing phase.
